They may suddenly become kinder.

They apologize.

They shower you with attention.

They promise everything you’ve wanted for years.

It can feel like the breakthrough you’ve been praying for.

But be careful.

In many unhealthy relationships, this is known as hoovering—an attempt to draw you back into the relationship when they sense you are pulling away. Real, lasting change is demonstrated consistently over time through accountability, humility, and changed behavior—not just emotional promises made when they fear losing control.

Don’t confuse temporary kindness with genuine transformation.

Watch for patterns, not performances.
