The Foundation of Abuse: Lack of Empathy

At the core of every abusive relationship is a deep lack of empathy. An abusive person is unable—or unwilling—to truly feel or care about the emotional experience of another. This is why your pain is minimized, your feelings are dismissed, and your needs are ignored.

Lack of empathy shows up as:

• Justifying hurtful behavior instead of taking responsibility

• Blaming you for their actions

• Showing concern only when it benefits them

• Being unmoved by your tears, fear, or exhaustion

This isn’t a communication issue.

This isn’t something you can fix by loving harder or explaining better.

Abuse continues because empathy is missing—and without empathy, there is no accountability or change.

Healing begins when you stop trying to get empathy from someone who doesn’t have it and start giving compassion and protection to yourself.

If this resonates, you don’t have to walk this journey alone.
