God Is Closest in the Grief After a Toxic Relationship

Leaving a toxic relationship does not mean the pain immediately disappears. The aftermath can bring deep grief—not only for the person, but also for the future you imagined, the love you hoped for, and the version of yourself you lost while trying to make the relationship work.

But God is especially near when your heart is breaking.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” —Psalm 34:18

You may feel abandoned, confused, or tempted to return simply because the grief feels unbearable. But grief is not proof that you made the wrong decision. It is often part of releasing what wounded you and making room for God to restore you.

You are not walking through this alone. God is holding you through every painful goodbye and leading you toward peace, healing, and freedom.
