What a Real Apology Sounds Like (And Why Fake Apologies Keep You Stuck in Toxic Relationships)
Not all apologies are created equal.
A real apology sounds like this:
✔️ “I was wrong.”
✔️ “I take responsibility for what I did.”
✔️ “I hurt you, and I understand why.”
✔️ “What can I do to make this right?”
A fake apology sounds like this:
❌ “I’m sorry you feel that way.”
❌ “I’m sorry, but you made me do it.”
❌ “Can we just move on already?”
❌ “That’s not what I meant.”
Fake apologies are designed to shut you up — not to heal you.
They avoid responsibility and keep you stuck in the cycle.
You deserve real accountability, not words that sound nice but change nothing.
If this hit home, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to figure this out by yourself.
